Pleasant Way To Spend A Morning

"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under
the trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of
water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no
means a waste of time."
--John Lubbock

I'm not the most outdoorsy girl in the world. Never have been...and never will. But I do like taking a bit of fresh air every now and then. When it is nice, that is. Today, after returning from church, I decided that the day was just the right one with which to be outside.

I armed myself with a glass of water, a blanket to lie on, and my latest Christian fiction book, Fair is the Rose (which is book 2 in a modern retelling of Leah, Rachel, and Jacob.) Let me tell you, it was a perfect way to spend three hours.

Sure, my water glass kept falling over (and thus got a little on the blanket); I had to content with a tiny spider or two. The ground was anything but comfortable (I like plush grass and my brother had just mowed a few days earlier, thus removing the soft feel =) But I took all of it in stride, finishing my book and enjoying God's creation. My favorite thing to do is lie on my back underneath the trees and look up between the leaves =)

We live in a fast paced world. Sometimes, we need to just step back and be still. It can be hard to do especially when we feel like we being a so lazy. But I don't consider it lazy to read a book that focuses on God all the while being reminded of the amazing world God made.

I would encourage you to be still today; it is so refreshing and soothing for the soul.

Sounds lovely! We had a day at home (finally!) after church this morning, now we're going to play "Apples to Apples" then have Meghan's dessert. Give your mom a hug for me! Love you very much!

Oh, that sounds wonderful, Ella! I'm not much of an outdoorsy girl either. I do like to go out and do things like that when the weather is nice though (and when there aren't too many bugs around). haha! :o)

Unfortunately, in today's society, rest has become a 4 letter word, something everyone avoids. The mindset seems to be if you're not running on the hamster wheel of activity 24/7, then you're being lazy. I'm glad I don't believe that anymore.

That is a great quote. Thank you for sharing.

Love,
Mom

Sounds wonderful. It would be a little too humid to do that here now, but in a month or two, it will be quite pleasant. I actually took a 2 1/2 hour nap yesterday afternoon, but paid for it later when I couldn't get to sleep when I wanted to go to bed! ;)

I have to keep being reminded of the fact that rest is important. It's hard to take time off when there's a lot to do, but spending time in God's creation is one of the best ways to do it.
