I love a challenge. When I try to remember back to when that first happened, I think my piano teacher is the one to thank. She always was giving my hard pieces by Mozart, Chopin, and Haydn. They weren't my favorite composers to begin with, but piano festivals were hinging on how well I mastered their movements.
So many tears ensued as I encountered frustration after frustration. I thought it was too hard. The whole entire thing was annoying. Many practices found me wanting to give up. But I didn't--though a big part was my teacher not letting me. She had set the bar high on purpose; she knew I had the capability of reaching it, even surpassing it. And while I still hate Haydn like the plague, she was right--I did master the piece I was learning. I had a sense of accomplishment that would not have been found had I given up.
Fast forward to today...do you remember when I complained about not being able to write fiction? Well, every November, NaNoWriMo issues a challenge. Write a fifty thousand word novel in thirty days. It sounds impossible, right? But I have decided to give it a shot. So, that is what I am going to be doing. In addition to work, school, writing commitments, family time, and TV shows, I am going to write a book.
I said I like a challenge. The Lord will give me the strength and ability to do it, as much as He wants....here's hoping I can top the bar!

I cannot write fiction very well either. This sounds like an interesting challenge to try, but I have to learn to manage my time better before I could try something like this challenge.

I "play" at writing stories and have even "finished" one, but have as yet to write anything "mature." I've recently started writing again, but have - as usual only written a few paragraphs! Oooh! One of these days...
BTW: I checked out Shabby Apple and thought it was really cool looking - there was even a dress or two I fancied. =)
You challenged yourself to complete your freshman year of college by the end of October...and you met that goal. I have no doubt that you will succeed at this as well.
And even if fiction is never your forte, just pushing yourself to meet this challenge will be wonderful.
I think your story sounds exciting. Can't wait to see how it all works out.
