Instead of going on and on with countless picks, I decided to give you my Top 5. Yes, I limited--amazing things do happen =D
#1 was easy for me. Hands down, Milla Jovovich in Elie Saab Couture wins. The instant I saw this picture, I said "I would wear this!!!" Her hair and makeup gives an Old Hollywood vibe; her dress is class with a modern edge (from the one shoulder.) Oh goodness, I still adore this as much as I did the first time I saw it. Who cares if it wasn't worn by a more familiar actress?!
#2 is Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen. This gown, with its gold detailing, is extremely unique. You can almost tell that it is Alexander McQueen, known for his "different" designs. Jessica's hair and makeup are flawless, much as Milla's had been. I do wish Jessica had carried a clutch--even a simple one--but she hasn't at any other award show this season, so I wasn't surprised she didn't to the Academys.
#3 is Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji. She has worn this designer to the Golden Globes, to the SAGs....it only made sense that she were it to Film's highest stage. This woman knows how to dress her curves and she doesn't it perfectly!! She looks absolutely flawless; hair, makeup, jewelry are spot on. I am so glad that this woman won Best Supporting Actress. (At least "The Help" won something ;-))
#4 is Penelope Cruz in Armani Prive. Initially, I thought it was someone other than Penelope Cruz. I mean, she usually goes for the sexpot route--NOT the Old Hollywood glamour route. Her hair is super vintage; the color is flattering. I cannot find a single thing wrong with it. If I had a memo to her, I would say that she should do this more often.
#5 is Natalie Portman in Vintage Christian Dior. This dress is a replica of a 1954 gown and I must say, I could see Grace Kelly accepting her Best Actress award in this. I love the polka dots; it adds a fun element, while staying classy and elegant. And that necklace?! WOW.********************************************************************
So there you go--my top 5 =D Coming up, I will do my Top 5 from the Oscars after parties. Because, keep in mind, just because the telecast ends doesn't mean the partying does.

As you said: Believe it or not, I actually thought Penelope looked lovely - and that was wierd. ;D Everyone seems to be raving about Octavia's gown and it was pretty.
One of the worst-looking/dressed was Angelina Jolie (sorry, fans) - as someone else said; someone needed to "feed" her!
Fun list, Ella. =)
Great picks! I thought Octavia Spencer looked amazing and I adored Penelope Cruz's dress!
FINALLY. ;)
I was wondering what your picks would be. I like the ones you have chosen -- but I also really loved Angelina Jolie's dress, even with the slit. Of course, she's always gorgeous -- that's a given.
Oh you knew I would finally do this, huh? I must say, Charity, that I did love Angelina's dress--slit and all. She looks absolutely stunning with her hair and makeup. She would have been on here as well. Definitely in my top 10. Email will be forthcoming in which we discuss the Oscars =)
Ruth & Rissi, glad to hear your thoughts as always. I love when you guys are around!
I adore Penelope Cruz's dress!
Hey Ella,
I found your blog through Meghan's at Just As I Am. (I also think we met this summer at a VBS party or something) Anyway, I just wanted to say that I always love your posts, and couldn't wait to read this one! I really love the dresses you picked!
~Grace
